how to make a pair of fairy shoes

If you are hoping to spot a fairy, a very useful present you could try offering is a small pair of fairy shoes. They are a little bit fiddly to make but they’re not too difficult and once you’ve figured out the pattern, you can try making them in all different ways – pointy elf shoes, fairy ballet slippers etc.

What you will need to make a pair of fairy shoes:

-felt scraps in two different colours
-two sequins
-scissors
-a needle
-some cotton

Step one: Cut out two tiny ovals from the felt you would like to be the soles of the shoes.

Step two: Lay the soles of the fairy shoes on top of the other colour of felt and cut carefully around them so you have two ovals in each colour, like this. (The two ovals you cut in this step will be the tops of the shoes.)

Step three: Cut a little circle out of the top of each shoe so there is room for the fairy’s ankle, like this.

Now you should have two soles and two tops, like this.

Step four: Next you need to sew a sequin onto each of the fairy shoe tops. You make the stitches by pushing your threaded needle up through the middle of the sequin, like this…

…and then pushing it back down along the edge of the sequin, like this.

You could secure your sequin with just two stitches, like this…

…or you could do lots, like this.

Step five: Lay the top of the fairy shoe onto the sole and then sew the two pieces together around the edge of the oval shape, using your very tiniest fairy stitches.

Step six: Put a tiny bit of crumpled tissue paper into the toe of each shoe so the fairies can see how comfortable they will be. Then it is just a matter of leaving them somewhere for fairies to find!

Tadaaaaa!

ps. Don’t forget there is a small collection of fairy things you might win if you leave a comment about your own fairy experience on one of these fairy posts.

Super cute! I think maybe a pair of tooth fairy shoes to be left behind would be fun.
