I made a couple of babies for our upcoming Creating a Welcome market. They have haloes made of wire and wool roving but they’re attached with just a couple of stitches (in case the doll is bought for a real baby). The haloes suggest that this is a very particular baby, with a family who have fled danger and are seeking refuge. They remind me of some people in my own country, I can’t think who…
The babies are each about as big as my hand and I made them cribs out of repurposed industrial felt.
They look nice and peaceful I think, gazing up at the stars above them.
If you would like to visit the market it’ll be on this Saturday November 12th from 12-5 at MetroWest, 138 Nicholson St, Footscray in Melbourne Australia. Every cent you spend on our handmade treasures will be donated to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.
It would be so lovely to see you there.
