needle books

21 March, 2015 ·

Last night I needed to come up with some little craft-related gifts quite quickly so I used a couple of the embroidered fabric paint splodges like the ones I showed you in this post to make two needle books. I cut the covers out of a soft purple felted jumper bought from my friend Jo’s magical garage sale.

The little bells sewed onto the ribbons are from one of the markets I went to in Thailand. I knew they’d come in handy for something! They wrap around and hold the books closed like this.

Inside are two rectangles of felt folded in half to make four ‘pages’, with a seam hand sewn up the ‘spine’ through both pages and the cover. The ribbon is stitched inside the back cover as you can see.

I’d imagined turning my ever-expanding collection of painted splodges mainly into jewellery, but now I’m suddenly taken with the idea of making a set of these for the next market!

While I’m here, would you call this a needle book or a needle case?

Have a lovely weekend!

  11. Nanette Beautifully sweet needle books. They look very soft and hand friendly. I thought about making little needle books for the next market, but wasn't sure if they'd sell...if you think it's a good idea, I will make some, they'd be different to yours.
