two little online auctions of my handmade work

17 June, 2015 ·

Over the years lots of kind people have asked me if and where I sell the things I make and usually I have very unsatisfactory answers like ‘not really’ and ‘at a little local market that is only on once’. But I am doing something a little different this Friday, as part of the Creating a Welcome collective, where people offer handmade work in support of our fellow human beings seeking asylum in Australia.

Our next event, a Winter Market, is this coming Friday and I, along with many other creators-of-welcome, will be offering my handmade things there. Please come if you can! I’ll pop our flyer at the end of this post, where you’ll find all the details. But during (and strictly limited to) the same hours as our market will be open (this Friday, June 19th, from 11am-6pm Australia, Melbourne time) I will also be offering two little auction lots online. To bid you will need to hop onto our facebook page  where you will find my own auction lots, along with some truly beautiful others, listed on Friday morning. We are happy to send these items anywhere in the world! And all funds raised, both through our market and our auctions, will go straight to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.

The first of my lots includes a little winter gnome, snugly dressed in wool felt and cotton lace and carrying a wooden snowflake…

A soft purple needle book with a tiny painted and embroidered landscape and a little silk-ribbon-and-bell tie…

A pebble moon doll, painted and embroidered on soft linen…

A plain jane necklace, made of little felt discs sewn with tiny pieces of velvet and other beautiful scraps, strung on a chain of linen thread.

And a little box of soft mohair leaf bunting (about a metre long).

Both auction lots will come wrapped lovingly with a set of three Creating a Welcome postcards.

We would be so, so grateful for your support with this little endeavour! It is hard to think of a more worthy cause our handmade work could support. And if you can be anywhere near Footscray this Friday, June 19th, please visit our Winter Market at MetroWest (138 Nicholsons St, Footscray). People have created such beautiful, beautiful things in support of the ASRC and we would absolutely love to share them with you.
