a different sort of journal

I’ve loved the story of the Cottingley fairies ever since I first saw this beautiful photograph as a child.

If you like it too and would like to read the story of the photograph (and see the others in the beautiful set it is from) you can look here.

Anyway, to my excitement, an academic journal called TAJA (the Australian Journal of Anthropology) has just published an article I wrote about these fairies. The article is about how in the early 1900s (when the photographs first appeared) they seemed partly like a religious issue but also like a scientific enquiry. Two very different worlds for the same idea to occupy – perfect for fairies perhaps!

I think you’ll have to be part of a university to access the entire article, but if you like you can have a look here.

  • congratulations, Anna! Wish I could read the article, it sounds fascinating. :)

I’ve been very taken with the story of the Cottingley fairies since I watched a film about them as a child. (I think it was simply called Fairy Tale …) The pictures are so charming!
