Appetite for stuff
I am a bad shopper. Last night I really, really tried. For hours. The seasons are changing, life is changing, surely it would be a good time for my clothes to change too?
Women of my generation are supposed to be afflicted with a drive to shop without stopping, addicted to the rush of having new things and plunging themselves into unmanageable credit card debt as a result. Obviously I’m not anxious to end up in that state, but it does make me wonder – are there special malls for those people, or are they looking through the same rubbish as me?
The sociology unit I’m teaching this semester does have some pretty anti-consumerist undertones. Maybe it’s killing my appetite for stuff.
