Today I’m following the lovely Ginny at Small Things for her Wednesday yarn along, where she posts a picture of what she’s making and what she’s reading and invites others to do the same.

As you can see, I have found a crochet pattern I can follow! Well, it’s not so much a pattern as a wonderfully slow video tutorial with lots of helpful commentary, and even then I keep having to rewind bits and watch them more carefully. But still, I am very happy to have sort-of-successfully crocheted something.
So, if you too are a bit tentative with your crochet hook, I highly recommend building some confidence with Little Birdie Secrets‘ brilliant how-to-crochet-a-heart tutorial which you can find here.
As for the book, it’s a page from The Secret Lives of Princesses, a most astonishingly beautiful book written by Philippe Lechermeier and illustrated by Rébecca Dautremer. I bought it as Princesses oubliées ou inconnues from a tiny children’s bookshop in Paris last year, even though I barely speak a word of French, because the illustrations are so exquisite! I have lovely memories of reading it by candlelight in the bath in my hotel, imagining what the words might mean…
Then this Christmas I was delighted to spot an English translation in a bookshop here in Melbourne, so I have been able to fill in the gaps.
And now a dear friend of mine and I are using it as inspiration for a small secret collaborative project we are awfully excited about…shhhhh…
Now if doesn’t sound charming I don’t know what does! I can’t wait to see the secret come to fruition!
I meant ‘that’ should be inserted between if and doesn’t…I am encircled by 3 wonderful ittle ones right now and some things are just lost in translation, sorry!
What a gorgeous photo! I can see why you love the book already~ and the wee hearts next to it are so darling
I am so proud of any one who gives crochet a go. The hearts are truly
lovely. I wonder what the secret is?
Why thank you for the tutorial link, my tender hook and i will go have a look.
The book looks exquisite.

I love the little hearts – beautiful. The book looks gorgeous too. Have you ever come across any of Jane Rae’s books? She has lovely whimsical illustrations too – I think you might like.

Yay! congrats on the crocheting! I was generally quite handy with knitting & sewing needles when I was a kid, but crocheting was always beyond my grasp. Very impressed you’re mastering it
I think I might give those hearts a try. I recently learnt to crochet and am hooked,, I love it. Am making a hedgehog for Sasha’s birthday. Have you read any of Reg Down’s “Tiptoes Lightly” stories. They are so sweet you will like them. We are reading King of Ireland’s Son, for Sasha’s recommended main lesson work. I have books all around the house and when I get a moment I pick one up to read. Have a beautiful weekend Anna.
Such lovely friends I have – thank you for these kind comments! Thank you so much Rebecca and Jeanene for the recommendations too. I’m always in the market for inspiration and I love finding it via friends here!
