According to Freud, ‘A man should not strive to eliminate his complexes but to get into accord with them: they are legitimately what directs his conduct in the world.’
This is such a radically different approach from the usual and, I think, far more popular trying-to-iron-out-one’s-flaws-and-weaknesses method. And it does ring true somehow.
I’ve been thinking about Jung lately too and the idea of being in touch with the shadow. He said that ‘in spite of its function as a reservoir for human darkness—or perhaps because of this—the shadow is the seat of creativity.’
Gosh.
